The targeted nature of Micromax was the big selling point for Kees and Elly Oostveen when they started looking at using the mineral supplement the first year it was released.
'We were attracted because of the science behind the product,' explains Kees, 'and because they formulate it for every region.
'Our Altum sales consultant looked at our herbage test results and asked us for blood test and liver function results for our cows. Then Altum supplied the right Micromax mix to meet our precise needs.'
Kees says that with so many supplements on the market, some offering up to 27 minerals, he never knew what to use.
'The targeted Altum approach means we don't waste any money on extra mineral. They don't sell you something that doesn't work, and there are no minerals in it that you don't need.'
He says their sales consultant still keeps an eye on this formulation, checking the blood and liver tests regularly.
Kees and Elly farm 350 Friesians on a 120-ha milking platform with a 96-ha run-off at Wrays Bush, about 30 km north of Winton, in Southland.
'I had to inject more for copper and selenium before I used Micromax. I've not had to do the cows for a long time.
